On my latest visit to the dentist, not only did my power chains get changed, there was an input of 2 rubber bands pulling the upper and lower jaws. These rubber bands have to be changed very time I eat, well, that will be very troublesome since must 自己亲自动手 to change and I am not good at it, causing the rubber band to recoil on my gums at times... Aw.... pain!
Heard that this procedure is quite common so I shan't post any pictures. Due to the fact that the rubber bands were in place for 1 day only, hence when I woke up in the morning today, I could hardly bear to open my mouth. The feeling was like the jaws were glued together.

The braces fully inside my mouth...
Heh heh...
Just one day after the brackets were in, now comes the metal wires and rubber bands!
Initially after hearing from my ACCA friends that can get to choose colour, I was like so excited... thinking what colour should I put? That day when the dentist just put in the silver brackets, I was like so disappointed... but I get to choose the colour of the rubber bands... weee~ something like ku3 zhong1 zuo4 le. :-D
So many but I decided on purple... because I thought that it will be easy to match my clothes.
The braces felt very awful now... having abrasions and ulcers on my inner lower lip and it is so difficult to speak and swallow and chew... sometimes I just lower my head and the saliva came out from the sides... gross...
Now I felt like a different person in terms of looks... ya trying to change to a different "me"

Continuation of my bracing pain...
On 02/03/07, I went back to the dental clinic for more bracing stuff.
On entering the room, the dentist asked me how was my extraction and I replied, "Alright, still can eat vegetarian abalone."
He said,"vegetarian abalone nice rite.."
I remarked, "but cannot eat the real stuff cause too chewy and tough."
He commented that must be my mom cooked too long, canned abalone is cooked for many hours already, but i rebuked that she only heated them up slightly... so still tough, not due to overcooking.
He then said must be the brands then... I replied that it is Moon.
Moon and Skylight are the common brands for abalone then he added about the debate regarding the quality of the abalone is affected by its origin... something like Mexican one is the best.
I asked after bracing still can eat potato chips, and he said can, why not? Just don't take corn chips because those are very hard.
At the start, anesthesia was administered. I remarked, "That bitter medicine again ah?"
The dentist then said your mom never tell you that bitter medicine then good? Good medicines are bitter ma... cannot do without this.
After a while, he blurted asking me don't look but quite some time has elapsed then I just took a peep and...
WAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!
The needle very thick and long... scary sia until I jerked a bit then the dentist said told you don't look, you still look, make yourself panicked only. The bitter medicine don't know how seep down my throat and I really felt like puking then.
Haha, my stomach keep grumbling meanwhile then the dentist asked if I had taken lunch and I answered yes, had sake sushi. He then mumbled filling meh? Or because you ate potato chips?
He proceeded to clean the teeth and put in the brackets, rings around the molars (with cement) and hooks with some brownish glue.
During then, I can only remembered I was drooling constantly because my mouth cannot be controlled due to it being very numb.
Towards the end, I tried closing and opening my mouth. Dentist asked how was it? Feeling ultra weird and he laughed.
Before I left the room, another 2 teeth were extracted, and the same thing again - gauze swabs and painkillers... this time plus 2 special toothbrushes and an ulcer cream.
Keep in anticipation for my next post with picts and the bracing experience part 3. Now too pain to continue writing even though the event is on today. :p

My visit to the dentist
On 23/2, I went to the dentist to start preparing for bracing. The experience was... well, eye-opening.
The dentist first gave me anesthesia, and indicated that it was "on the house" and "free-flow". The injection to the gums was a bit painful and the drug was really very very very bitter... even though it smelled nice.
Following that, I had examination, x-ray and photo-taking for specimen purpose. That was funny when the dentist was like saying " Smile. You're the Singapore Idol winner..." and I replied "Very hard, half the mouth was feeling numb and it is hard to control the muscles there to make a smile". The dentist said he understood but still asked me to try to smile. I tried and he said that it was the saddest Singapore Idol he ever seen.
Oh ya, after that has this thing to open my mouth for the dentist to take picture and I really feel like "Wow, what a way to start off pig year, looking like a pig myself with the mouth really in a weird shape." The dentist and the assistant then carried on to put in metal moulds into my mouth to test the sizes. A bit awful but still can "tahan"...
Next were the same metal moulds but this time, with some white gluey stuff smelling like mint chewing gum but ultra sticky like elephant glue. they pressed the things hard into my teeth for indent and later pulled out. The lower jaws went well but for the upper, after they removed, the dentist said: "Ah, too small. Cannot fit all."
This one then is the terrible one, the mould ultra big then put in, take out, put in again with the same white gluey stuff and my mouth hurts from opening very wide.
Part of the white gluey stuff sticked to my lips and to take them off took a bit of time and pain as well.
Oh, and then came the extraction of 2 of my teeth...
Just when the dentist took up the pliers or something like that, I became very nervous, asking " You gonna pluck the teeth now ah?" then the assistant was like "Oh, haven't pluck yet, going to..."
They then tried to pluck by twisting and turning my lower tooth with the pliers-like thing. I felt like a machine with some rusty nails that desperately need removal and they like using screwdrivers with pliers and trying very forcefully to remove the nails. The dentist commented that my tooth super strong, very hard to remove. I felt a bit traumatized ya and the process repeated with my upper tooth being removed.
After I went home, my mouth was still numb and as the numb feeling disappeared, I actually felt better and not in pain. It was only until next day morning then a bit more pain and discomfort but... heh heh, I still ate lao yu sheng and steamboat at night... :D but no real abalone for me... :C because the meat is really tough to chew, though the vegetarian one I still ate.
Overall, my legs went wobbly in the dental clinic... sigh.
